1: Birds, ‘nuff said
2: Modeled after a Chinese dragon. Should be dragon type, imo, but they’re well known for being able to fly, even though they don’t have wings. Look at Rayquaza, as well.
3: The Skiploom line is meant to represent a type of plant pollinated by wind, so abviously they’re very light and float through the sky. Tropius has wings, and Shaymin’s ear look like wings. Shaymin is your best argument in this case.
4: Comes from a Genie that flies around in a cloud, has clouds around its feet. I don’t see the problem here.
The first time I saw Sylveon, I thought it was fake. It doesn’t look like any currently existing type, and an Eeveelution is supposed to represent the type in a very visible fashion. It’s gonna be a new type. >:O
No, just no. Ruin, stop being dumb. It’s very floaty looking. The flowing design is what makes it look like a flying type. Also: Purple is a color that is commonly used to represent wind elements, which Flying type is essentially the pokemon equivalent of wind types.
There’s also the whole “OMG A NEW TYPE IS THE UNLIKELYEST THING EVER” argument, but that’s calling you dumb on a whole other level. :I
Everything about this design matches up with every single Normal type in the Fairy egg group: Clefairy Line, Jigglypuff Line, Chansey Line, Snubbull Line, Skitty Line, Audino.
The only Normal types in the Fairy group who don’t look like Sylveon are the Togepi line (ironically, half Flying, so that doesn’t help your case) and Castform, which is an extremely unique case of a Pokemon.
Now when you look at all these Normal types (except the Togepi line and Castform) you also notice that none of them have secondary types. I’m not saying that they’ll all be retconned to include a new type, but it’s very possible that they could.
That’s my basic rundown on design.
My next point is this: every Eeveelution to date is one of the types considered Special before the physical/special split in Gen 4. Flying is a physical type, so that alone breaks the pattern. The only special type left is Dragon, and I think we can pretty much all agree this thing doesn’t look like a Dragon type.
Eevee was used in Gen 2 to introduce the Dark type by way of a new evolution: Umbreon. Espeon provided a counterpart to this evolution as well as an example of the night/day mechanic and friendship based evolution. Note that Eevee hasn’t gone near Steel; it’s a physical type.
Next, it looks kinda floaty/flowy, but then so does Jigglypuff. Clefairy has wings, and it’s not a Flying type. They’re meant to look magical and whimsical like fairies, but that type hasn’t existed up until (I’m predicting) this point.
Okay, so purple represents wind sometimes… Sylveon doesn’t have any purple on it…. So…. Yeah… There aren’t really any other flying type with a color scheme like this.
Finally, every other Eeeveelution you can tell exactly what type it is as soon as you see it. That’s their thing. This guy doesn’t look like any existing type except Normal, and I feel like a Normal Eeveelution would look more like, well, Eevee.
If this thing’s Flying type, I’ll own up, and I’ll be super embarassed, but I really, really, really strongly believe that it won’t be. If its gotta be an existing type, it’ll be Normal, and Female only, with a Male counterpart coming along with it.
